Vision 

Repurpose the Treasury Building Complex to deliver an innovative and sustainable long-term outcome for the Tasmanian community, while at the same time recognising the role the Treasury buildings have played in the story of Tasmania since the 1820s. 

The future use should respond to and celebrate the place’s history and heritage while exploring and realising its full potential. 

The repurposing of the Complex should:

  • Deliver a long-term sustainable outcome that conserves and protects the history and heritage of place. 
  • Ensure that the site continues to connect with and complement its surroundings. 
  • Consider innovative and adaptive future uses. 
  • Consider opportunities for enhanced accessibility for the Tasmanian community. 

Opportunity

The Tasmanian Government is seeking to revitalise one of Tasmania’s most iconic and historically significant assets through adaptive re-use, which may be delivered by way of varying tenures and commercial structures. Once repurposed, the Complex has the potential to be a new and innovative focal point in the heart of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, which enriches local culture, hospitality, business and tourism. 

All interested Proponents including, but not limited to, developers, investors, end-users and interest groups are encouraged to participate in this process, by sharing their proposed ideas and exploring potential opportunities to contribute to the future of the Complex.

The Buildings

A unique collection of eight interconnected and adjoining civic buildings, offering a rare and significant repurposing opportunity in the heart of the CBD. 

The Department of Treasury and Finance is the current custodian of the Complex. 

Treasury has appointed Cushman & Wakefield to investigate options to repurpose the site so that the eventual outcome of the process meets the Tasmanian Government's and the community's expectations.

Communication Process

Responses to this Registration of Interest will help inform the Tasmanian Government’s decision making in respect of the repurposing project, as subsequent market engagement phases are progressed.
